From the film-maker:

In the painting, Venus, the goddess of love and beauty, is lying on her bed in an erotic and sensual pose, admiring her reflection in a mirror held by Cupid. Yet her reflection is not clear. Her facial characteristics are not defined.

I felt that the blurriness and vagueness of Venus' reflection served to give the painting it's theme- self absorbed beauty. So I took that premise and applied it to "Unscented", where I aimed to hold a mirror, as cupid does in the painting, and reflect some truth behind beauty and glamour With Venus's back turned to us, I felt that the painting had a bit of a voyeuristic feel, which inspired me stylistically- so I took that approach in some of the shots of the woman getting ready. I wanted the viewer to feel that they were taking a peak into her reality. Appearances are, after all, deceiving
