I was really struck by the contrast of light and dark in Murillo’s painting. The lamb and the infant seem to be in a pocket of light within darkness. There is a very obvious relationship between child and animal as they share a loving embrace; the lamb has a protective attitude to the child. My story is about a little girl, Scarlet, who desperately wants a pet cat but her parents get her a sheep. She tries to dress him up, putting make up on him and decorating his wool with bows. The sheep is not impressed, and Scarlet thinks he is a terrible pet. She asks her parents for something else, but they tell her to love him. In anger, she runs away, eventually getting lost in the dark forest. Suddenly there is a bright light in the darkness…
