From the Film Maker:
The painting has a bunch of bright flowers, placed in a dull environment. I thought flowers were meant to be in the sunlight, not a dim area. This was what caught my attention. The contrast of mood in the painting is its most notable characteristic.
Initially, I had two other paintings in my mind. However, this painting stood out due to its varying moods, defined by its lighting and colour usage. The orange flower in the middle of the vase was my favourite. This inspired the current design of my character, a flower.
When I started off looking for a painting, I had decided to animate a non-human character. Hence, I looked out for paintings that could inspire me in that direction. I thought this painting set out the basic thinking process by inspiring me to animate the state of a flower when placed away from the sunlight.
