What inspired me about the painting is the way the lady and the child are looking at each other, as though they are communicating. This reminded me of a photo of me and my stepdad walking together when I was 3 or 4. It looks like I’m deep in conversation.
Children have a fresh take on the world and often go ignored when actually they have a lot to say. I remember looking up at the ceiling and imagining what it would be like if it was turned upside down. It looked like much more fun terrain.
These rooms so familiar to me would become a completely new place. I also remember lying on the lawn looking up at the sky and imagining I was looking down, scaring myself with the prospect of falling into the bottomless abyss that it would be if gravity were switched.
