The National Heritage Memorial Fund: 25 years supporting the National Gallery

24 September - 30 October 2005
Room 1 Admission free

Since its foundation in 1980, the National Heritage Memorial Fund has played a crucial role in saving works of art for the nation. This exhibition celebrated the joint achievement of the National Gallery and the NHMF in preserving for the public a group of works of exceptional artistic and historic significance.

It brought together a selection of seven celebrated paintings acquired by the National Gallery with the support of the Fund, among them Holbein's 'Lady with a Squirrel and Starling' and Claude's 'Enchanted Castle'. The exhibition was an opportunity to explore each painting's unique contribution to our artistic and cultural heritage.
