Kitaj: Transcript of Audio Clip 1B
'About halfway through my life, I became obsessed with what I like to call the "Jewish question". And two things really obsessed me more then anything else. One was, why are these people so hated? For four thousand years, they've always gotten themselves into trouble. Aside from this, the other question which interested me enormously, was the question of Jewish Modernism. In almost every other discipline there were Jews among the founding fathers of all the other tracks in humanities that you could think of. But it didn't happen in the art of painting for some reason. There is no Picasso among Jews, there is no Cézanne.'
