'The Enchanted Castle' : student project.
An extract from ‘The Enchanted Castle’
by Natasha Yr 3 (as Psyche)
The Enchanted Castle

"I was walking down the road minding my own business when, I was suddenly blown by the West Wind into this magical place. I had no idea where I was, I felt really scared. In the morning when I woke up I found Cupid right by me. He said that he would give me everything and anything that I asked for and he did. I asked if my sisters could come to stay with me. At first Cupid said no but because he loved me so much, in the end he said yes. So the next day my sisters came round and they were saying that I shouldn’t trust him. The castle was beautiful, it had all these fancy things like a waterbed, a banquet table, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, KFC and in the corners were all these golden things. The walls were pink with hearts over them"……….

One ITE student used the story of Cupid and Psyche to inspire creative writing from her Year 3 class. She asked them to assume the identity of one of the main characters and write an account from their point of view. The ITE student read her class the original source of the story from Apuleiuss 'Metamorphoses'. She encouraged them to use their imaginations to embellish and personalise the tale. The class planned and revised their piece of writing, producing their final draft on the computer.
