Glimpse

by Nicolas Ureta

Contains mild nudity.

From the Film Maker...

I wondered who the woman in the painting was. Is she a prostitute? The way she is drying herself gave me the feeling this was a cleansing ritual, probably after being with a client. So the script grew from this character. The way she is drying her neck was also important - it gave me the feeling she had a problem, she was worried. The weight she seems to put on her neck with the towel suggested this to me.

I felt that conflict for this woman would be being pregnant. How would you deal with having a potential life inside you, at the same time knowing this clashes with the way you live and earn a living?

The nudity, especially seen from behind, I found very interesting. I find the curvature of women's backs very beautiful and sensual. In the painting, the way the woman seems to be at ease with her own body and the way she shows her back to us attracted me. I didn't know anything about her and felt the need to give her an identity, a life.
