From the Film Maker...

In the painting Venus, the god of love and beauty, has an inner strength that keeps her alert while Mars, the god of war, sleeps on, supposedly exhausted after a battle. The theme of love and war run through the film. Leon beats Vanessa causing her to get a black eye.

In my film the character Vanessa wears a cream nightie. Her golden locks cascade down her face just like Venus’s. I chose grey pyjama shorts for the character Leon to let most of his body stay nude like Mars. She lies on a red sofa when Leon comes to apologise to her.

I find the look in Venus’ eye as she looks on at Mars sleeping very interesting - even troubling. Mars on the other hand is in very deep slumber and very vulnerable. In the film, Vanessa stares on in to the distance when she decides to forgive Leon as he sobs on her lap. I made Vanessa stare in that questioning, yet calm manner to echo Venus’ calm but emotional face.
