The portrait has a cool north European light. The lady is set against a dark blue background which enhances her pale complexion as well as the transparent veil.
In my film I made the pale complexion of my main character into a prominent feature. In the opening scene we watch her through a window, passing through a transparent white curtain. And in bed, she's lit by blue moonlight through a transparent curtain.
Medium close-ups frame the main character and other players against soft backgrounds, using long rather than wide lenses to create a sense of depth.
The girls are framed together in the middle of the film for comparison, placing them close to each other to mark their relationship to each other.
The painting is detailed and realistic. To me, the woman in the painting has been made to look innocent and pure. I tried to achieve this in the film. The protagonist of my film has an effect on the other characters she meets. An effect created by her mere presence. Her silence and private manner enhances this effect. This film is about silent communication, curiosity, preconceived notions and competition
