A Morning Interlude

From the Film Maker...

I was inspired by the high colour contrast, style and elements of mannerism in the painting. I wanted to mimic the colours when seeking a location for my film.

What interested me was the naked Venus, wearing what could be seen as a huge hat. The enormous sexuality in Venus’ body and face was a starting point for me. In the film, I tried to relate a sense of absurdness in the narrative. I enjoyed the humorous attitude in the painting and tried to encompass the same attitude in my film.

I used the narrative of the painting in which Cupid gets himself in trouble by stealing a honeycomb as the basis of my plot. But the major story is the way Venus puts on a huge, eccentric hat.
