From the Film Maker...
I used green, orange, purple, red and different shades of maroon and yellows. I tried to match these with the clothes, embroidery and the decoration of the set.
I focused on music and the relationships between the characters, looking at how the people in the painting relate to each other. They have their hands in certain positions and this may give us clues to their character.
The man on the right seems to be tapping the tune with one hand and with the other is holding his jacket tightly; he is looking at the woman and not at the audience like the other two. Perhaps he’s shy or in love with her. The woman has one hand on the shoulder of the man in the centre. She has a slightly scared look to her and is standing back, taking refuge behind him.
The man in the centre is the only one who seems completely secure, hands on his instrument and eyes half-closed, perhaps as if he has done this performance many times before.
