The Ballet Lesson

by Daniel Sulleiman
Composer Simon Stevens

From the Film Maker...

Degas's 'Ballet Dancers' was the springboard for my project. The thing that struck me most about the painting was the gracefulness of the movements. This influenced each stage of the project, from character designs to animation techniques. The scenario is set inside a ballet studio, with the teacher giving a brief lesson to an eager, but slightly overweight student. The story for the animation is not directly based on the painting.
