Samson and Delilah

by Emma Dobbs

From the Film Maker...

The painting depicts the moment the Philistines enter Samson's room. One of them cuts Samson’s hair, while an elderly lady holds a candle up, dimly illuminating the moment.
My project is a contemporary retelling of this classic story and the fatal scene when Samson is betrayed by his lover.

The strong characters of Samson and Delilah inspired me to design a modern and funky story. My version of Samson is a young and fit hero, more in love with his training weights than his girlfriend. And in this modern day of female empowerment, it seems natural to have his girlfriend rid him of his locks to try and win back the attention she once got when they first met

In my animation, what happens afterwards is left for the viewer to ponder. Will Delilah win back her man or will Samson immediately turn to the internet to purchase a fast-acting hair growth product?
