The last Berth of the Fighting Temeraire

by Siow Yaw Liew

From the Film Maker...

What caught my eye was the contrast of the old war ship and the new steam tug against the sunset. Moreover, the following sentences inspired me with an idea.

'The ghostly Temeraire glides solemly to its death, towed by a funeral tug belching fire and soot, as the sun sets in glory and a pale new moon rises.''

My idea is to create a spiritual human-like Temeraire dancing for her last berth. As she dances, there are some images of her glorious days flashing in the background. The spiritual temeraire is modeled in 3D and the background images are in 2D maker style. In order to merge 2D and 3D animation together, I applied some special light effects that emit from her hands when she is dancing.

The structure of the story is divided into 3 parts. The first part is the beginning, she starts to dance slowly and is accompanied by slow music. The second part is the climax the dance and music are tense, with the battle scenes in the background. The third part, slows everything down and brings the story to an end.
