Education Projects based on 'The Madonna of the Pinks'

  • To reinforce the fact that the 'Madonna of the Pinks' is owned by the British public the painting is on a Nationwide Tour to allow everyone a chance to see it. The venues are Manchester, Cardiff, Glasgow and Co Durham.

  • Current and past events at the Gallery have included the 'Madonna of the Pinks' in talks, lunchtime lectures, guided tours, gallery talks for schools, and family drawing activities. Similar events are planned at each touring venue.

  • The painting features as a key work in the National Gallery's major exhibition 'Raphael: From Urbino to Rome'.

  • The subject and scale of Raphael's 'Madonna of the Pinks' will be used to develop its education, community and interpretation programme, breaking down many of the social, cultural, emotional, intellectual and physical barriers often associated with old masters. The outreach programme will focus on the National Gallery's commitment to developing new audiences and help foster social inclusion, and in particular, will target young people, Looked After Children, young mothers, the homeless and wider communities.
