The Story of Bacchus and Ariadne: Bacchus

Detail of Titian, 'Bacchus and Ariadne'.

Bacchus has caught sight of the beautiful Ariadne and has fallen in love with her.

He sees her distress and jumps out of the chariot to comfort her, perhaps believing that she is frightened of the cheetahs drawing his chariot.
