Rosalba Giovanna Carriera
1675 - 1757

After Rosalba Giovanna Carriera, Rosalba Carriera, 18th century (Detail)
Carriera was born in Venice, and was an internationally celebrated portrait pastellist, often portraying foreign visitors. In 1705 she was elected a member of the Accademia di San Luca, Rome. In 1720-1 she was in Paris, where her work was received with great admiration. Her more sentimental pictures, especially of young girls, seem to anticipate Greuze.
