Year 7 pupils from Hackney Free and Parochial
School worked with performance poet Valerie Bloom,
who used Rembrandt’s painting ’Belshazzar’s
Feast’ as a focus for her masterclasses.
Valerie began by introducing the pupils to Jamaican
Patois, and the whole group joined in performing
several of her poems, which were written in Patois.

Valerie introduced the painting to the pupils and
told the story. The pupils were given some tips
to help them write their own poetry. |
