Roy
Apps is the author of fifty children’s books,
including ‘The Twitches’,’Time
Spinner’ and the hugely popular ‘How
To Handle’ series for Scholastic. His new
series for Bloomsbury, ‘The Fang Gang’,
was launched in October 2006 and his ‘Crime
Files’ series for Franklin Watts was launched
in Spring 2007.
Roy’s novel ‘The Secret Summer of Daniel
Lyons’ won the Writers’ Guild Children’s
Book Award and was shortlisted for the Whitbread
Awards. It is now a successful youth musical. ‘Time
Spinner’, a KS2-3 musical based on another
of Roy’s novels will be published in September
2007.
Roy also writes extensively for radio and TV. In
2001 he was awarded a special BAFTA for his children’s
television work which includes ‘Byker Grove’,
‘The Ghost Hunter’ and ‘Barmy
Aunt Boomerang’.
Roy regularly visits schools, libraries, bookshops
and Arts Festivals to read from his books and to
share the secrets of ‘The Shed in Your Head’.
He has been involved with a variety of arts projects
helping young writers create books, plays, films,
performance poetry, podcasts and an opera.
