Kevin Brooks's instructions to the students

So first of all I want you to have a look at the picture, either on there or on your postcards, and just try and take anything from it, anything at all: a feeling, an image, a face, the situation, what you think is behind it and first of all just somehow relate it to something that means something to you. It could be anything: something you feel, something that’s happened to you, your family, your friends, anything at all.

All I want you to do is, I want you to write something down. It can be anything at all. It can be an idea for a story, it can be a poem, it can be a description of something, and sometimes you find if you just write a list of words, without thinking too much about it, you find that your subconscious, the stuff that makes you what you are, makes you write stuff that you might not understand straight away.
