Carolyn Henry

I am Carolyn Henry. I am 16 years old. I have just got married, hence the reason I am at my first outing. My father, Sir Alexander Henry, is a wealthy man indeed, and my mother, Jacqueline Howard, is the lady of the house.

I’m stuck in this rather funny looking frock. It was bought by my mother-in-law. She loves the bodice, she thinks it makes me look quite like a lady rather than a little girl.

Just before we came to the performance I felt quite nervous because I haven’t been to any shows before. My husband, Frederick Clark, is a wealthy man too. I have many opportunities, being married to him.

Even though I am married to Frederick, who is 20 years older, I feel I need to pay more attention to my true love, Edward. Edward plays a cleaner and scrubber in the play. I just need to see him, even take a glance. He is my soul mate. I am sitting here next to my chaperone, who is my butler, instead of Edward. But I cannot betray my parents. Reputations are ever so important in the area of Chesham County. Word spreads like disease.

Here he comes. He’s on stage! I feel that extra beat in my heart dedicated to him. Oh Edward! Oh Edward! Will we ever be together? Out of the blue, the butler speaks. ‘I might just tell Frederick about you, going to plays to see your fancy man. It’s just not right’, he whispered. My world is falling apart.
