'Bathers at La Grenouillère' by Claude-Oscar Monet
Monet's painting shows a sunny summer's day at a popular bathing and boating resort on the river Seine in France, which had a floating café nearby.
There is a wooden walkway running across the middle of the painting. Below the wlakway on the left small boats jostle against one another in the water. Above the walkway on the left are trees and bathing huts by the river's edge. Adults and children play in the water in the middle of the painting, and three people stand chatting on the right hand edge of the walkway. Behind these three people is a view of the river winding away into the distance.
This looks like a nice place to go on a sunny day. What are all the people doing? They all seem to be having fun. It's difficult it hear what people are saying though, isn't it?
Can you see the little girls playing? There are lots of people splashing around in the water.
We can't see it in the picture but there's café nearby. Can you hear the music coming from it?
The water looks calm, but in the gentle wind the wooden boats knock together.
You can't see them in the painting, but do you think there may be ducks nearby waiting to be fed scraps of bread?
