In the 1950s, the Council for Places of Worship (under its' former name the Council for the Care of Churches) together with the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings set up a Wallpaintings Committee to advise upon and encourage, the proper care of wall-paintings in English churches. In response to requests from other bodies a General Conservation Committee - with an extended membership and function - was formed in 1969 to co-ordinate advice on the care and conservation of important church furnishings and fittings of all kinds.
Davies was asked, and agreed to join the Committee in November 1972. He remained a member until at least November 1973 (exact date unknown).
