Publications: European Paintings in the Worcester Art Museum

The file contains records for all aspects of the writing of the catalogue, from the research to the draft copies and other related papers used by Davies' in his research.

In the early 1960s Davies was approached by Worcester Art Museum, Massachusetts (WAM) to write a catalogue of the Italian pictures in the WAM collection. In 1964 WAM received funding to produce a wider catalogue of all the European pictures in the museum. Davies was to continue writing the section on Italian pictures and other authors were assigned to write separate sections relating to different schools of painting. Although Davies's papers reveal that he worked on his section until the mid 1960s, the book European Pictures in the Collection of the Worcester Art Museum (EPWAM) was not finally published until 1974.

A note in the introduction to the publication European Pictures in the Collection of the Worcester Art Museum by Louisa Dresser, states that "due to editorial and production delays a considerable length of time elapsed between the completion of the manuscripts and the publications of the text." It also records that Davies completed the Italian entries by the end of 1965, that he attempted to keep them up to date but that very few amendments were made after 1968.
