Acknowledging the receipt of his letter conveying an enquiry from Lord Frederick
Cavendish, and saying that duplicates of pictures in the Collection would be
copies which are ineligible for acquisition, and such copies have been sold or
exchanged by the Trustees, and under this act 39 pictures previously acquired
for this Gallery were sold by public auction at Messers Christie and Manson’s on
14 Feb 1857.
