Informing him that the late Sir Charles Eastlake's Library on works of art was purchased from Lady Eastlake in 1870 and in 1879, the Treasury authorized the purchase of books for the Library, providing the amount did not exceed £100 per annum. He adds that the Library is for the use of officers of the Gallery and not open to the public
