Photocopy of an illustration from the 'Illustrated London News' 18 May 1861 p 458. James Pennethorne constructed three rooms for the display of sculpture in the Royal Academy. The space used was formerly the hall and entrance hall of the National Gallery. The central and largest of the rooms is shown here and was painted pink. The space above was given over to the National Gallery. See 'Sir James Pennethorne and the Making of Victorian London' by Geoffrey Tyack, 1992, p.202.
