Marie Uprimy bequeathed £12,000 to the National Gallery, stipulating that the money and its accumulated interest should be used to purchase a 16th or 17th Century Dutch or Flemish painting. Preference was to be given to any potential purchase of a painting by Breughel or Vermeer.
