Description
The registers record details of loans made to the National Gallery. Each volume contains some or all of the following information: name of lender; artist; subject of picture; date of receipt; and date of return.

Administrative history
Between 1840 and 1979 the National Gallery kept a register of works lent to the Gallery. From 1979 to 2000 loans information was recorded on individual files relating to the different loans. After 2000 the information has been entered into the TMS database system.
Custodial history
The registers were created by the National Gallery and are now held in the Gallery's Archive.
