Correspondence with Peter Wilson of Sotheby's concerning the acquisition, including arrangements to defer the sale of the picture until further funds can be found by the Gallery. Correspondence between the Trustees debating the merits of the Cezanne, which is generally warmly approved of, if only for its art historical importance in some cases. Report on the picture by the Gallery's Chief Restorer, a copy of which was sent to Max Rayne. Correspondence with Max Rayne concerning his arrangement of a potential contribution towards the purchase of the picture, Rayne considers this unlikely but suggests he discusses the matter with the finnancial secretary of the Treasury.
