Includes correspondence between Hendy, Gibson, the Earl of Crawford and Balcarres [Trustee and Chairman of NACF], Lionel Robbins [Chairman of Trustees], Sir Alexander Johnston of the Treasury, Mrs Meldrum of the NACF and Lord Kilmaine of the Pilgrim Trust re raising the necessary funds for the purchase. Also information on the picture and its history for the NACF's annual report and copy of Gallery's press release announcing acquisition, 21 Jun 1956.
