Johnston of HM Treasury and Lord Rothschild, 1953-1955, re sale of the latter's portrait of 'The Morning Walk' by Gainsborough, Government assistance towards the purchase by raising the Gallery's annual purchase grant and the NACF's contribution towards the purchase price.
Also correspondence with Kingsley Adams, NPG, re the picture's exemption from death duties; correspondence with representatives of Birmingham City Museum and Art Gallery where picture was on loan; drafts of press release; extracts from Board minutes re potential purchase; notes on Sir Charles Holmes' inspection of the picture at Lady Rothschild's request in Nov 1932.
