Access

The National Gallery aims to make access to the paintings enjoyable and welcoming to the widest possible public. There are a range of facilities to help you experience the collection, visit exhibitions and come to events.

The Gallery offers British Sign Language-interpreted talks on paintings for visitors who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, and art sessions for visitors who are blind and partially sighted. See all Access events coming up at the Gallery

We recommend booking in advance online to help us manage the number of people in the Gallery and to limit queuing. For visitors with access requirements, please call us on +44 (0)20 7747 2885.

Entrance to the collection is free.

School groups

For school groups, the Gallery can also offer sessions using multi-sensory materials for students who are blind and partially sighted, and for students with learning disabilities. Find out more about our SEND programme.

Accessible transport

The nearest tube station with step-free access from platform to street level is Westminster station, on the Jubilee, District and Circle lines. Then take buses: 12, 24, 88 or 453. For the latest information, please check TFL [external link, opens in a new tab].

Badge-holder parking

There is one designated parking space on Orange Street. Please note this parking space is about 250 meters from the Getty Entrance.

You are required to book 48 hours in advance by telephoning: 020 7747 2885.

There are five alternative parking spaces available nearby in St Martin's Street.

The space on Orange Street is not on the National Gallery premises. Should another Blue Badge holder park there before you arrive, unfortunately, we cannot send them away. If this occurs, there are alternative parking spaces available in St Martin’s Street and Leicester Square Car Park. Please phone Westminster Parking Information Service on 020 7823 4567 for more information.

Public car parks are available nearby in Leicester Square [external link, opens in a new tab] and Trafalgar Square [external link, opens in a new tab].

Resources

Transport and standard manual wheelchairs, as well as a Rollator, are available to book in advance. Please call 020 7747 2885.

A limited number are available on a first come, first served basis at the Getty Entrance on Level 0. Please ask at the desk upon arrival.

Seating is available around the Gallery. Folding stools are available at the Information Desks.

Lifts: Lift access is available to the galleries. Please contact us for a full list of lifts and dimensions.

First Aid rooms: Please ask a member of staff if you wish to use a First Aid room or if you require assistance. 

Toilets: There are disabled and ambulant toilets near the entrance.
