Summer holidays at the National Gallery

3 - 28 August 2004

Shake up your summer with four weeks of 'Move it!' fun at the National Gallery. Throughout August, there are a variety of FREE hands-on art workshops, events and activities for families with children of all ages. Each week the workshops explore different themes taking inspiration from all around the Gallery.

Magic Carpet Storytelling
Tuesday-Friday every week throughout August. For under 5s. 11.30am. FREE
Climb aboard the magic carpet and fly away for a half hour adventure. Sessions are free and explore a different painting each day. Children must be accompanied at all times.

Shake it!
3 - 7 August. 11am and 2pm (except 7 August 11am only). Ages 5 - 11. FREE
Saint Francis is shaking hands with a wolf! What will be the next twist in the tale? You decide in this printmaking workshop with artist Thomas Gosebruch.
7 August. 2pm. Ages 12 -16. FREE
You decide. A pact between man and wolf sealed with a handshake. But will the wolf stick to his word? A printmaking workshop with artist Thomas Gosebruch.

Chariots of Wire
10 - 14 August. 11am and 2pm (except 14 August 11am only). Ages 5 - 11. FREE
Get wheels under a National Gallery painting and race it away. A painting workshop led by artist Ansel Krut.
14 August. 2pm. Ages 12 -16. FREE
Chariot wars. Design and build your own in this painting and construction workshop led by artist Ansel Krut.

Do the Twist!
17 - 21 August. 11am and 2pm (except 21 August 11am only). Ages 5 - 11. FREE
Put a picture in a spin in this whirl of an animation workshop with artist Felicity Powell.
21 August. 2pm. Ages 12 -16. FREE
Spin again. Put a picture in a spin in this whirl of an animation workshop with artist Felicity Powell.

Remove it!
24 - 28 August. 11am and 2pm (except 28 August 11am only). Ages 5 - 11. FREE
Donít lose your head. Join artist Dillwyn Smith in this workshop exploring the Execution of Lady Jane Grey and create a swirl of emotion with paint.
28 August. 2pm. Ages 12 -16. FREE
Whereís your head at? Join artist Dillwyn Smith in this painting workshop exploring the dramatic Execution of Lady Jane Grey.

Notes to editor:
The workshops run every Tuesday to Saturday 11am and 2pm.
Practical art workshops last two hours for 5-11 and 3 hours for the 12-16 and there is no need to book.
Please note, numbers are limited and are allocated on arrival.
All the events are FREE.
Meet in the Education Centre Foyer, Orange Street Entrance.
All children under 12 must be accompanied.
Young people aged 12 to 16 need signed authorisation from a parent or guardian. Forms can be collected from the Gallery Information Desks, or telephone 020 7747 2885 for details.
