To celebrate this year's Golden Jubilee, the National Gallery is holding a special exhibition in partnership with CBBC's flagship programme Blue Peter. This will give fifty young prizewinners from across the UK the opportunity to have their art work displayed at the National Gallery.
For CBBC Blue Peter's Golden Jubilee portrait competition, viewers aged 15 or under are invited to make an A3 size portrait of the Queen in any medium, and entries will be judged in three categories, 7 years and under, 8-10 years and 11-15 years, by a panel including National Gallery Director Neil MacGregor and artist and illustrator Quentin Blake, who will also open the exhibition. Once selected, the pictures will also be exhibited on-line on the National Gallery website.
When the exhibition has finished its run at the National Gallery, 'My Queen Elizabeth' sets off on a nationwide tour: it can be seen at the National Museum & Gallery, Cardiff from 23 July - 27 August, at MAGNI, the National Museums & Galleries of Northern Ireland at their Ulster Museum site in Belfast from 9 September - mid. October and at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh from 25 October 2002 - 19 January 2003.
The provision of frames for the exhibition has been generously supported by The Art Fund, the UK's leading art charity. The Art Fund has also generously agreed to give each of the 50 prizewinners a year's free membership.
For young visitors to the National Gallery there will also be a special Kings and Queens audio trail, and a gallery trail on the theme of Gold.
